Week 1 - MBA 6601 - Artificial Intelligence
Surfing the Tsunami starts off by making some very interesting and pertinent points about artificial intelligence (AI). In a world where people are becoming even more skeptical and believe that they are being manipulated at every turn, it is increasingly possible that they are being "followed." Every click on Facebook to a new add or every google search helps the computer learn a little bit more about who you are and what your preferences are, so they can set up marketing preferences with ads that will be even more personalized and enticing.
As AI becomes more common place and increasingly intelligent, it is important that people begin to learn about what it is and possibly even become involved in AI to some extent. Kelsey, the author, refers to the journey that one can pick as three options: adapt, adopt, adept.
Adapt - considered a 'good' AI option where the person stays informed and aware of AI to follow it and see what is happening.
Adopt - considered a 'better' AI option where the person adopts AI platforms and is the one who manages it and automation until it becomes automated in managing itself.
Adept - considered the 'best' AI option where the person becomes more involved and a producer of AI.
There are different perceptions about how AI will have an affect. Some believe that AI will help to produce more jobs than we have now, while others believe it will drastically reduce available jobs. The reduction in jobs is linked to automation and increased computer intelligence, where a computer becomes better and more skilled than the human brain at completing a task. I agree that we are not there yet, but AI is evident in many facets of our life and will continue to become even more prevalent. Becoming adept is likely the best choice for the long run.
